In the U.S.A., more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease- more than AIDS, asthma, cystic fibrosis, congenital anomalies and diabetes combined.  And yet, all types of childhood cancers combined receive only 4% of the U.S. federal funding for cancer research.

More than 175,000 children are diagnosed each year.  The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer driven charity, committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives.

The Knights of Columbus Council 871 in Hanover, Pa is hosting a fundraising event to conquer childhood cancers.  The event will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 from noon-4:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road, Hanover, PA.

The Knights are soliciting shavees to have their heads shaved (clippers only-no razors) to support these children.  Shavees are requested to solicit their sponsors to provide financial donations in their names.  Shavees and donors may register or donate online at St. Baldricks.org and search the event box.

September 13 will be an event filled day:

For Kids Ages 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14, there will be competitions in baseball pitching, football passing, basketball and soccer.  A nominal donation will be requested for each event.

For Adults there will be Tournaments in Bocce Ball and Corn Hole Games.  A $10.00 donation is requested for each adult player.  The adults will receive a complimentary food and beverage ticket.

Other activities include Fire and Police Personnel Equipment and Face Painting.  Food and beverage (non alcoholic) will be sold to support this event.

The winner of the Corn Hole Tournament will receive a Game Set decorated in Orioles and Ravens Colors.  The teams in the loosing bracket will have their names placed in a drawing for a second game set.

For additional information go to:  St. Baldricks.org and type in Hanover PA in the search box.
